Mr. Wood

s

To the Class of 1998:

I want to congratulate you on
your completion of a very suc-
cessful and outstanding four
years at Wilmington High
School. I am truly grateful to
have come to know so many
of you over the years and want
to wish each of you a lifetime
of success and happiness.

We have experienced many
changes at WHS during these
past four years and I am very proud of how you have been able
to adjust to these changes. You have faced many challenges and
have always maintained a sense of pride in all that you have
accomplished. I hope that we have encouraged you to be
lifelong learners. May you leave Wilmington High School with
many happy memories and know that we will always be here if
you need us. I

Dedication

Mr. Krey has carefully and skillfully
taught chemistry to students of
Wilmington High School for the past
34 years. His commitment to encouraging stu-
dent involvement in the sciences goes far beyond
the impact of his classroom teaching. He fre-
quently conducted evening stargazing
field trips to Rattlesnake Hill and the
high school, natural history field trips
to Foster's Pond, and trips to
Wilmington-based Olin Chemical
with chemistry students. From
1 966 to 1 989 Mr. Krey was the advi-
sor to the Science Club. The club
was used as a vehicle for nurturing
student interest in science beyond the
scope of classroom study. Of the many

activities Mr. Krey developed under
the auspices of the Science Club, the
Magic Show was perhaps the most
significant. Science Club members
J7^ n had a diverse repertoire of
magic acts, all very scientifi-
cally designed and executed
thanks to Mr. Krey, and would
perform at various times and
locations throughout the
year. The Magic Show had a
major impact on all students
both performers and mem-
bers of the audience. Mr.
Krey's calm demeanor and
quiet dedication will be greatly
missed.

Yeah, I'm the man!

Class Jiis to ru

[n August of 1994, the class of '98 entered the
halls of Wilmington High. After settling in,
we elected Dave Ward president. Scott
wiezynski was V.P., Christian Ferraro treasurer,
id Angela Fiorenza secretary. (All three re-
tained in office for the duration of their high
:hool careers.) In athletics we watched as the
Dorts teams were fairly successful in their final
Bar in the MVC. The girls basketball team was
ague champ. In news, the O] trial started, the
oston Garden ceremonially closed, and Okla-

'. )ma was bombed. From the start, our class was

J lown as a group of pioneers led by a different
-esident and new principal every year. We held
te first ever "Freshmen Fling" in the cafe, which
s since become even more successful.
Sophomore year came in a flash with the resig-
tion of Paul T. Fleming and the election of Tom
eigham as president. Mr. Woods assumed the
le of Acting Principal. We mourned the death
Mr. Olsen and the Cape Ann League seemed a
d move for athletics. The crashes of Value Jet
id TWA flight 800 shocked us. Once again we
?cided to do our own thing and moved the semi
Casa de Fior right in Wilmington. Other than
ooked pillars for pictures everyone had fun.
In the late winter, the class came together to
tow Lauren Senesi great support while she was
the hospital after a terrible car accident.
Along with junior year came more changes -

Rebecca Rogers became our third president and
>me guy name Patuleia showed up, tried to
iforce some rules, and then left. Football suf-
red the most heartbreaking loss in years to
orth Andover, costing them the Cape Ann
ague title and a Super Bowl birth, despite a
eat season. The hockey team won the Cape

| nn League title for the second year in a row.
ftball clenched one too. There were many
her state qualifiers. We watched as the Patriots
ade it to the Super Bowl and Tupac was mur-
red. The junior prom at Hillview Country

Club in North Reading was a hit. No one waited
for the plates to be cleared from dinner before
they swarmed the dance floor. Paul Fugere was
king, Angela Fiorenza was queen, and the court
included Megan Falzone, Damion Dicenso, Tara
Konaxis, Kevin Carroll, Kristin Flynn, Ian Em-
ery, Melissa Mather, and Scott Swiezynski.

Senior year was one event after another. Kristin
Flynn became the new and last president of the
class of '98. The fall sports season had a great
boost from Spirit week (blue & white day, decade
day, army day, etc.). Homecoming ended the
festivities. Mike Vitale and Leann Bento were
voted king and queen, and the court included:
Julie Yentile, Chris Kilburn, Lauren Senesi, Paul
Tentindo, Christine Crowley, Scott Swiezynski,
Julie Stygles, Ian Emery, Kristin Flynn and Brian
McCarthy. The boys soccer team was amazing as
the school followed them through five games in
the state tournament, after dominating Cape Ann
and grabbing the title. Field hockey took the
league for the second year in a row and beat
Manchester, undefeated for 4 years. Mr. Lucia,
the new Vice Principal, showed up on a motor-
cycle with rule book in hand. The Senior Lounge
became the "senior closet" as it was downsized
for band storage. The cafeteria was lightened up
by useless blue awnings (just in case of rain). The
year brought many sudden deaths of famous
persons. We were horrified at Princess Diana's
car crash, Sonny Bono's and Mike Kennedy's ski
accidents, and Chris Farley's heart attack. We
watched the Winter Olympics in Nagano as the
U.S.A. took home several medals and snow board-
ing made its debut. We lived it up at the '98 DAY
PARTY. The class finished like it started by bring-
ing in another new idea. They spent a night
locked in the gym with tons of entertainment,
prizes, and food on June 1 st (senior sign-out day).
Our prom was at the Omni Parker House in
Boston on May 15th and finally, graduation on
June 7th, 1998.

To My Beautiful Daughter Christine
Elizabeth:

Though sometimes we don't get
along very well, you will always be
my daughter. The one who is most
like me. The one who holds the
sacred spot of being number two. The
hardest place in the world to be. You
are your own person. An individual in
your own right. I am very proud of
you. Some day you will understand
why children and parents argue! The
guardian angel that I gave you on
your sixteenth birthday will guide you
through your life. Listen to your head
and your mind will always know the
right thing to do.

/ love you always C 'hristine, I
